Melissa officinalis seeds
Melissa officinalis is a perennial herb, hemicriptófita, with creeping stems herbaceous, slightly woody at the base, quadrangular and almost 1 m high. Presents opposite, clearly stalked leaves, up to 9 x 7 cm, with ovate limbo and toothed margin, bright green, with hairy surface. In summer flowers, resulting in pentameric, stemmed flowers, verticilastros arranged, with the cup up to 1.2 cm, bilabiate, tubular, and whitish corolla, also open tube with two short lips. Lemon balm is native to the Mediterranean sea. Spread by cultivation, it has naturalized throughout temperate Europe. It grows wild in moist, clear forest meadows, on the banks of rivers or in hedges and cultivated fields, on soils rich in organic matter. It requires sandy, well-drained soil, and is not demanding in terms of sun. Except in warm climates, lose foliage in winter, returning to sprout in early spring.
